pollinating cucumbers
« on: April 29, 2007, 20:32 »
I've got about 5 Marketmore and 5 Telegraph sedlings. They are a couple of inches high now, and I guess I'll put them out in the plot in a couple of weeks, when the last chance of frost is over.

A couple of questions:
1. They are not all-female so I will need them to pollinate each other to get the fruit, right? Should I keep the 2 types very separate? And do I need to do this myself with a little brush, or are there enough plants to pollinate each other?

2. I've been told that the Telegraph is a greenhouse cucumber and the Marketmore is an outside cucumber - will I need to trellis them, or will a pot and a stick do?

thanks so much,x
trying to be organic...
