Bit of a long shot, but could you not reboil the chutney with additional potatoes?  Just a thought.

Cheers,   Tony.

You could add spoonsful to stew or casseroles, or even curries, which have not been otherwise salted, perhaps

I made some tomatoe once that had too much salt in the recipe , it was realy salty , so I made another batch with no salt at all and a little more sugar and then mixed together , there was an awful lot of chutney but it did work in this case .
good luck with yours

I've been using some old chutney as an addition to pesto, mixed up with pasta, and it ain't half lovely too!

All it needs is a little cheese grated on top!

Pasta always needs salt, so it may be an idea for you!

Thank you for the input!

I will try the adding to soup one, that's something I hadn't thought of, I make soup all the time.

The adding unsalted chutney or reboiling entails investing more time and money to buy ingredients (I've only got leeks producing at the mo, although... leek chutney? Worth thinking about) so may not be worth it, when I have about 20 jars of other chutney to use before next season.

We made several pounds a couple of years ago, and only yesterday, I realised that it had 'matured', and was less fiery, and really not that bad at all!

So we're keeping all these jars!

Several years ago I made a lemon and lime chutney that was not nice and quite salty.

It got put to the back of the cupboard and I ditched the recipe.

After a year we tasted it again and it was gorgeous, and I was kicking myself for ditching the recipe.

You could try leaving it longer and then trying before you use it up in soups etc.

You say that nobody likes it, is that because it is too salty or they just don't like the flavours.

If it is just that it is too salty you could use it as a salt seasoning substitute for marinating meats, poultry and fish, whichever you think it will suit best.

I might compromise and keep them, but try using them in soups.

Mrs Bee, we don't like it mainly because it is too salty, but here is another flavour in there that I am not sure about (I think it might be fennel seeds which I used because I had no celery seeds),but I can't past the saltiness to tell

Well if you really don't like the underlying flavour as well, I think I would bin them.

I have tried a couple of recipes that were absolutely ****** in the past and much though it pained me to waste food, I binned them. :(

And put a thick pen line though the recipe too.

Same as Sunshineband.  I often add chutney to curry especially the meatier darker sort of curry.  I do this by design not just to use it up. Adds a roundness and sweetness as well adding to the depth of flavour.  As Sunshine says just don't salt at the start and adjust seasoning at the end.

I have made up my mind and they are going out, reluctantly.  :( We have tried them again and no, we don't like it, so it is going out.
Good thinking Mrs Bee about crossing out the recipe, at least it would be if I could remember which recipe it was! :nowink:

My memory is not what is once was either, but that is something I do immediately when I come across a naff recipe. My cookery books are written all over.
