squished eggs!!
« on: June 16, 2010, 19:52 »
Hello, my three hybrids are just about 18 weeks and one laid a small but lovely egg yesterday and the day before. Today however there was two empty squished soft shells ??? I know they do lay soft ones when they first start to lay but I was a little surprised by this. At the moment they are still on growers but with ad lib grit/shell mix and corn mix in the evening. Can anyone advise please

thank you

Broody
if wishes were changes.......

I would pop them on layers over the next few days :)it takes a while for them to get the hang of laying and as long as it doesnt happen all the time i wouldnt worry too much :)

Depending on which growers they are on you should check to see if there is coccidiosis treatment added into the food.  If there is, you shouldn't eat the eggs!  As for the soft squiched eggs, can't help I'm afraid.
2 Springer Spaniels, 1 Speckled Sussex,  1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Light Sussex, 1 Welsummer, 2 Barnvelders and 2 silver Pencil Wyandotes.

as lisa said start to change them over to layers so they get the right amount of nutrients in their feed.
Staffies are softer than you think.

for a while you need to mix both feeds, so they gradually get used to the new food.

Hi feeling broody,
If it doesn't mention the coccidiosis treatment included in the list of ingredients then it should be fine to eat the eggs :)
