Haha - sounds a touch like some confectionary competitiveness  :lol:

Here's my recipe - it tastes like Dime bars!!  :D

1 cup of butter.
1 cup of sugar.
1 tbsp water.
1 tbsp glucose
375g blanched almonds, roughly chopped

In a saucepan, melt the butter, sugar, water, glucose and 250g almonds over medium heat. Increase heat to high. Cook and stir for about 5 minutes until the mixture is brown and steamy.

Pour onto a large piece of greaseproof on a large tray and use a palette knife/spatula to spread out (semi-) evenly. Sprinkle with last 125g almonds.

Refrigerate 1 hour and break into rough pieces. It can then be dipped into chocolate, either fully or just one end and then left to cool on greaseproof. (I say *can, but it really *should... Dime-y goodness!!)  :D :D

It's also good with pecans  :)

What a nice idea! Well I tried this toffee recipe out that I found online at mydish and it turned out great. The toffee is very flavoursome and crunchy so I'm sure your OH will be impressed, mine certainly was!

Ingredients

    * 1 cup butter
    * 2 cups sugar
    * 1 cup almonds
    * 1 cup chocolate

 Method

    * 1.Generously butter a large baking sheet.
      2.Combine butter and sugar in a large heavy saucepan.
      3.Cook and stir over high heat until mixture boils. Reduce heat to medium, cook, stirring   constantly, until candy thermometer reaches 310*F (155*C).
      4.Remove from heat and add 1/2 cup of the almonds. Stir quickly and pour onto prepared baking sheet.
      5.When it has cooled a little bit, sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate pieces over top.
      6.Once softened, spread chocolate with a spatula evenly over toffee.
      7.Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup of almonds.
      8.Cool and and break into serving pieces.

Hope this helps. Anna x

Don't know any soft toffee recipes - why not just make fudge?  :)

Any recipes with out nuts?

Mine can easily be made without nuts - just don't add them! You could add something else instead if you wanted to but if would taste just as good without the nut pieces, and just dip it in the chocolate.  :)
