Too late?
« on: June 27, 2012, 22:26 »
Hi there

My allotmenteering has been a disaster this year for a number of reasons and I finally went back to the plot today after a break. I basically got nothing in apart from garlic and onions. Last year was brilliant.

Is it too late to plant/sow anything for this year?

Thanks for any tips/ideas

I started peas, carrots and parsnips off this time last year and they were fine. I have just seeded some carrots and parsnips as a second sowing yesterday.

Last year I did not get my plot till the 16 June it was three and a half feet tall with weeds . After digging a small patch over I started planting. I had a great crop of beet root spring onions radish lettuce cabbages , I even planted some potatoes that had started to sprout at home and got a crop off them .
Still time just a little limited.

Great, thanks for the replies - feel a bit better now!

I'll get down at the weekend, clear the weeds and sow some stuff!

I'm hoping we get an "indian summer" in September through to early November and, if I'm right, there'll be time for one or two late crops to catch up.

By the law of averages we really should get some warmth this year before autumn.
Shouldn't we?
