Campsis problems
« on: July 04, 2011, 12:35 »
Don't know if anyone can help?  I have a very healthy camsis plant growing up a big trellis.  It had grown really well this year but suddenly whole bunches of leaves are falling off the main stem!  There doesn't seem to be any reason for it.  I am worried I might lose the whole plant.  Any suggestions?
Many thanks

Don't think so.  Has been watered along with all the other garden stuff and the ground around it seems quite reasonably damp.

Is it in a draughty place then?..................other than that I've no idea.
They seemed to be very easy plants when I grew them in Greece.............perhaps it just doesn't like the cool nights we still keep getting :(

Leaf drop is a sign of stress at this time in the year. It might be that it has had a period of dryness previously, or .....

maybe scale insects?? Worth checking a these can sometimes build up quite  abig infestation unnoticed.

Thank you for the suggestions.  Have put the hose on the base of it now - just in case lack of water is the problem.  No sign of bugs of anything nasty though so don't think it is that.

Have you looked for ants nests near the roots?

Haven't thought of checking for either ants or moles!  Will do so in the morning.  Thanks again for all the suggestions.
