Perches
« on: May 21, 2010, 17:48 »
Hi all, new to this chicken thing. I am in the process of buliding a chicken run and converting a shed. I have run out of old wood and pallets, after being nagged by her indoors to get rid of it. Can I use old spade or fork handles as perches?
Many thanks.

I don't see why not, just make sure that it is secure and will not turn/spin when they perch.
Welcome by the way!!
Geoff Davis. :)

The handles will be a bit narrow and slippery for large hens and they will end up sleeping upside down like bats. :)
Best  use 50x50mm with the corners off or a thicker branch if you can find one.

I went down to my local skip and found two old staircase handrails and lots of short ends of scaffolding poles my girls love them.
two thing you should never worry about, yesterday and tomorrow.
