Any grape experts out there ?
« on: July 16, 2014, 19:49 »
I'm no grape expert whatsoever, but three years after I transplanted a vine from the garden to the plot, I have grapes at last. Out of doors.  Hooray. In fact, I didn't get any grapes in the garden with this vine for about 4 years in unfavourable conditions.
Anyway, is there any way to tell what variety I have just by appearance, as I just can't remember, apart from them being smallish and red in colour the one year they fruited.  Even if it's just distinguishing eating and wine grapes would be a help.
I will post pictures shortly, but they obviously are rather immature so far and shouldn't think there's much to go on. Are there any clues to look for, apart from a very old weathered label ?  :D
I seem to vaguely remember the variety was bought as supposedly suited for the English climate. May even have been from Aldi about 7 years ago.

My grapes sound the same as yours Beesrus, the vine was from Aldi and the grapes were Ok for eating but were loaded with pips so I will be using mine for wine.
