I have a merry tiller titan that is burning oil, can anyone recommend a good replacement engine?
-
How about another Briggs and Stratton? your one has lasted all this time.
Or you could replace with a Honda.
Whatever you do, try to avoid replacing with something that is more horsepower than the original as this can lead to the framework cracking under the increased strain.
-
Gwiz,
Would you know a model number for a briggs and stratton suitable engine?
-
theres one on ebay right now.

Dave, I'm sorry but off-hand I couldn't tell you. If you go onto the Briggs and stratton uk website, and put in your Model-type and code numbers, you should come up with a solution to your problem.
The numbers can be found stamped onto the engine cowling. I'd suggest phoning around a few dealers, so you can be sure to get a reasonable price.

O.K I'll try that route.
I really appreciate the advice, thanks Gwiz, thanks everyone!

LONCIN is a chinese Honda copy ;) The engins look identical and the spares are changable with Honda. I have a 6.5 horse the go for £110 on ebay. Five of use faithfull Merry Tiller users on our allotment have them, the oldest being four years (and he uses is weekly) and none of use have had any problems.

Although this is the same make of engin as mine my local hire company fitted it - so check the shaft size / position etc

any Q frame engine. I would have a Honda, even from thier cheap range but Gwiz is right a B&S would be fine. 3hp or more is Ok for tilling.
