It doesn't hurt, don't try to throw it about again, please, people get bitten when handling or scaring them. :D

Crikey Aunty were you around to see that as well?

Now you are telling us you were not even there, how are you identifying it then, it's very difficult for anybody not well experienced, even when they saw it, 'couse as boys said they can be each in sorts of colors.

Easiest for anybody, me finks, is this: adder-short and thick(2 feet and a bit), grass snake long and thin(even double that in length).

But any whichever how, none of them are going to hurt you, if you leave them alone and you should, I know Munty said this before, but we have to emphasize this, both protected, only two snakes you get in the country.

it would be a bit traumatic if you lifted something up and a snake was laying there, but like munty said it would have been very docile at this time of year.but not everyone knows that.
feed the soil not the plants
organicish
you learn gardening by making mistakes

no snakes in ireland

St. Patrick drove all the snakes from Ireland. He stood on a hill back in the fifth century and used a staff to herd them into the sea, banishing them for eternity.

And they all swam to Australia!

If you want to feel better about the snake , just think you could be living here
 8)
"Australia has some 140 species of land snake, and around 32 species of sea snakes have been recorded in Australian waters. Some 100 Australian snakes are venomous, although only 12 are likely to inflict a wound that could kill you."
No worries eh?

Even with the above, I've never had a snake look like wanting to hurt me - I've come across them out walking many times and they just get away as fast as they can.

We had one in the office at work once, that was a fun day. It was FAST.

I am still far more likely to be killed in a car accident than by a snake...
