Hosepipe ban ?
« on: July 30, 2007, 00:09 »
Is there a hosepipe ban in England at the moment ? I must say I haven't got a clue   With all the rain, it never really entered my mind that there could be one.

But we do have the occasional sunny days and I have used the hosepipe on the allotment 2 or 3 times already since I bought it about 2 weeks ago.

I remember the woman in charge of the allotments saying to me, in May when I first got it, that since she started her job, there hasn't been one single summer without a hosepipe ban. So realising that it is actually summertime (yeap, I forgot  ), that made me wonder...

Thanks

No, the ban was lifted earlier this year. We do have quite a lot of hosepipe bans here, but certainly not every summer.

Check your water suppliers website. I'm certain that we don't have one here at the moment.
Although I can't say that recently I've had much call to use one. I water at home with the water butt that rarely gets lower than 1/2 full before it rains again and at the lottie we've only needed to water the greenhouse and occasionally the more vulnerable outdoor plants.

Hi.  Yes, Glebe means a plot of land belonging to a church.  Most old street names and town names have a particular meaning with a root in old english or latin.
Cheese makes everything better.

If you look on "streetmap" for glebe you will find many hundreds.  To add to Ices definition- A Glebe was a portion of land allocated to support a priest. Although originally it was intended as the sole support for the priest, it usually required substantial augmentation through tithes.  There is therefore, the likelihood of there being a Glebe Lane in most English parishes.
