hi PG. had another go of it today, taking the top weed layer off real good.

Still got the tines stopping problem under load,.. could it be a clutch problem? probably a hard part to find?

don't know if norlett and ariens where ever the same company. as for the tines stopping under load, is it just the tines stopping, or do the wheels stop as well? if its both, the belt needs to be tightened, if its just the tines, its going to be the internal clutch most likely, but it may have an adjuster of some kind on the outside, i can't make anything out on the pic's

Got it sorted gwiz, ta. New belt solved the problem.

The wheels and the tines were stopping. Tightened up the tensioner too. ripped it up today.  :D

What oil for the centre box bit and also the engine would you recommend?

glad t hear you've got it sorted :D
engine should be SAE30 or you could use 20W50 (car stuff)
centre box..... i don't know, you might find it stamped on it some-place if its a gearbox as such, it might be SAE 80 or 90, or it could be SAE30, the same as the engine.
sorry i can't help any more than that.  :(
