Power Rake!
« on: July 17, 2007, 20:05 »
This was an experiment.........hitching up a 28 inch rake to the roto
Those of you have a front tine cultivator will know that it doesn't leave the smoothest of surfaces, so I thought i'd try a "power rake"  :)

Thats a seriously big spanner, used for a weight!

Actually, it didnt do a bad job on its first tryout, 'course its only usefull on long runs, to much hassle turning round on short stretches

The hitch I made is pretty elementary

Think I might try making a "chain harrow" affair, next, as I got a bits of spare chain
Baz.........
Mostly organic...

Thats what I thought, before I tried it, its no problem really, in fact you can even walk to one side of the handle

see that rake
they are the best rakes in the world for preparing a seed bed to a fine tilth.
its all to do with the prongs if your rake has square or flat prongs close together they wont break the soil up half as good ,you just end up pulling all the soil towards you or pushing it away from you
turn it over and its the best tool for doing a seed drill.they are quite expensive but well worth the money

In reply Shaun NO. I have had a terable year in the garden. The rain, work comitments, and a holiday have taken all their toll, and all I have is weeds, slugs and waterlogged ground. Hence loads of time in the workshop welding :? .
Only the lettuce, onions, carrots and sweed are doing anything close to well. Oh and the sprouts.

I am going to keep planting stuff even if its too late. Last year it was very mild until the middle of november. I have just ploughed a load of stuff in so this weekend if the rain stays away I will start again. Its got to worth a try. Last week end I ploughed in some 400 square meters. So this weekend its plant, plant again.
