That's what I thought.

Keep flushing the crop out and give bio yogurt.  Make sure she has plenty to drink and syringe feed some electrolyte solution if she won't drink.  The longer this condition is left untreated with an antifungal the more likely it is that she will suffer permanent damage.

As described in the digestive problems sticky in our poultry info section.

The crop will keep filling with liquid as a reaction to the infection.  This should be removed and then give her a drink to replace the lost water.

You could try the treatment here:  http://www.pekinbantams.com/impacted_crop_treatment.asp  but that includes an antifungal.  Which would mean a trip to the vets.  She may die quite quickly without antifungal treatment.

Bodger or Munty or others may be along to give you further advice.

is your gp a reasonable person?? how about if you asked for it on a private prescription?? that way its not going to come off their bill? and if it is licenced for use in animals then its not like they are going to be in bother from that direction...just got to prescribe it for you...and you use it in chicken...lol.... either that or go in and try and blag you have got oral thrush!...look up symptoms and bluff your way....

Was wondering if it may be a good idea to put a sticky with regional poultry friendly vets on it ?-obviously with their consent. I know a few excellent ones in Bristol who would be more than happy to help .Just a thought as I have noticed a lot of chook keepers sometimes, hopefully not too often -need a good vet at usually short notice because a chook has become ill.

You could try a different vet maybe???...if thats possible? Mine is very reasonable and has (in my view) never charged extortionate prices. What about calling the vet to see if they would supply you with the medications that you asked about or Aunty suggested, without consultation?   :)

Well, thanks Aunt Sally. Ruby appears much perkier this morning. Her crop is empty and i am feeding her probiotic yog which she seems to enjoy. She is roaming around the garden - a bit gingerly i have to admit but she is on the move so thats an improvement. I suppose it will be ok for her to eat what she likes in the garden??
