Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give....
First year doing romanescu. Plants seem quite tall, about 1m, When should the heads start forming? On inspection yesterdat the plants look really healthy but close to the head there are what look like brown droppings. Can anyone tell me what they think they are? Plants always covered with enviromesh and leaves do appear to have any damage from caterpillars?
Pics of the central growing head and then zoomed in on "droppings"

It does look like caterpillar droppings. Just check your mesh isn't touching any of the leaves because cabbage whites can lay eggs through it.

There is also the Cabbage Moth which in my experience tends to get in under any crop protection fleece.
I would expect the Romanesco heads to be visible by now , mine were always KO'd by the first frost when i was growing them in Hampshire.

Seems like leaving them was the best idea. Its a proud day! No how much longer should i leave before eating it!?

Nice! Well done with that.

Isn't it wonderful when you find something like this lurking under the leaves? I would watch it carefully as you don't want the curd to start separating out. Keep an eye on the weather forecast as frost could damage it …. too precious for that!!!

Personally I love them to the extent I'd set an outside camera up to keep an open eye out for the exact harvesting moment!
