Curry paste
« on: December 13, 2011, 19:52 »
Searched the shelves of Trashco this morning but could not see any curry paste  - probably pushed out to make room for endless wrapping paper and crackers  >:(
Anyway, can I make curry paste from curry powder and a bit of oil, or will that not work?
If not I will resume my search tomorrow!
Thanks
Elaine

I think it would work but not have the depth of flavour from a proper paste.  Do you have onions, fresh ginger and some spices to make one yourself?
Cheese makes everything better.

make your own - fry up onion garlic and fresh ginger, then add cumin, coriander and turmeric as a base. You can add all sorts, but these are always a good basis.
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

They normally do about a dozen different ones. Sometimes the best ones are in the Foods of the World aisle, cheaper too than the more well known brands]

I made a fresh curry paste the other day for a quick prawn curry but they're difficult to rustle up without the specific ingredients to hand.  I was frustrated as I couldn't buy black mustard seeds anywhere and I ended up ordering them from the internet direct from Barts. They came the following day  :)

Thanks for your replies everyone.
Yes I did want a quick fix as I will be late home tomorrow and need a fast turn around so hubby can go out.
I did search for Pataks paste, I have bought it before but could not see any on the shelves. I will have a look in the Asda near to work but that is full of christams stuff too!
May abandon recipe till I have more time and settle for a stir fry

Thanks

Elaine

Asda usually stock Pataks in their World Foods section too  ;)

Good luck
