Was it a complete no-no to have planted my shallot sets out today... I thought I'd got the timing right, but now looking on the internet I should have done it last autumn or this spring!

i put a few in 3 days ago,an ive seen a few on our lotty putting them in so i guess its ok

Whether you spring plant or autumn plant depends on the variety, it's not actually your choice between one or the other.

Spring planted ones you'd probably get away with now, mine go in next month.

What variety do you have?

They're called Red Sun, which I believe is a spring planting bulb.

You should get away with it. Shallots can stand cold better than onion sets.
