Cat fleas.
« on: September 14, 2011, 21:34 »
Does anyone on here recommend anything OTHER THAN FRONTLINE for eradicating fleas on cats? Ive come to the conclusion that my cats have become immune to Frontline now as Ive been using it for so long. It just doesnt seem to work on my moggies anymore, so now all 3 have developed flea allergies. Ive never really had a problem with my cats and fleas before now, just the odd outbreak, but its terrible at the moment.

Advantage, which contains imidacloprid.

Don't know what Front Line contains, so hope this is something helpful  :)

I put Advocate on our cats. Seems to work but you have to keep it up. All these things are so expensive aren't they >:(

I actually have cut down how often I use this, to only about 4-5 times a year now.

Initially I did it monthly, but after a few years (and three cats) slowly cut it down and it seems to be fine. :D

my sons cats had Frontline, but one boy became allergic to it, rather than to flea bites, and the vet put him on the one with the worm treatment in it as well....sorry, can't remember the name, and Thomas is fine with that one :)

Stronghold mumofstig  :) I have to use it on one of mine as he is allergic to Frontline. Although, is great as he is semi-feral and gets his worms in one go at a spoton  ;)

Advocate does  all sorts of worms plus fleas and ear mites but you do need a seperate treatment for tape worms.

You'll have to get the Advantage or Advocate at the vet.

Advocate is good, but expensive.

I use Frontline, but I only do it to treat fleas (once per year, if that!) and not prophylactically.

Following your advice, I bought Advantage on-line from a company over here in France. Fantastic service, thank goodness, it arrived in just 2 days. Put it on the mogs and I have to say its brilliant stuff. The fleas have completely gone, even Phoebe is flea free and she was really suffering poor thing. I am so glad I found out about this wonderful stuff. Im sure that my cats had become intolerant to Frontline, Im so glad that I found an alternative.
Thanks so much Casey76.

We use Advantage, as we were told last year after a flea infestation that apparently the fleas have become immune to frontline.

The only disadvantage is that it doesn't prevent ticks, but we work on the basis that we'd rather have the odd tick that we can remove as we groom the cats daily then hundreds of fleas!!
The glass is neither half empty or half full - it is simply the incorrect size! Find a new glass!
