Title: propogator in greenhouse?
Post by: beki on February 25, 2008, 11:58
hi all  :D

i've done a search, but couldn't find what i was looking for, so sorry.. but it's another boring newbie question

i've been germinating greyhound cabbage and sutton broad beans in a little propogator (non-heated.. just plastic) on my windowsill.

however, they don't seem to be germinating as fast as my sister's, who planted hers the same night as mine (from same seed pack, same compost etc). she's had hers on her windowsill at home and hers are al huge, and almost all have germinated. mine are pathetic in comparison

anyway, i reckon they're not hot enough (her place is a lot warmer than mine), and possibly not getting enough sun.

so i've put the propogator in the greenhouse about an hour ago.

my question is.. do i need to bring them in at night because of the cold? it's an unheated greenhouse, and an unheated propogator.

thanks! xxxx

I think they will be OK. Mine are germinationg OK in an unheated geenhouse and an unheated cold frame.

I agree with noshed, they should be okay. If you want to be on the safe side then a couple of sheets of newspaper placed over the propogator at night will provide extra protection.

Hi Beki, I have just put your blog on my favs, as it will be interesting to see how your frugal living goes!

I'm always looking for ways to cut down too!

Is there no way you can cut your car insurance down?  I know we only have one car, and Brain has been driving for 45 years, but ours is only £22 a month!  Fully comp  and no claims bonus protection too!

It must be harder with children though.  There's only me and Brian, dog, cat and chooks!!!!
