Rotovator advice needed.
« on: January 17, 2010, 19:57 »
I have a Flymo DM rotovator which has given me several years of service but the bearing on the input shaft to the drive chain now has a fair bit of play in it. As this appears to be a sealed unit I assume that a repair is not possible.

Firstly, does anyone on here have an old DM they want to part with? Engine is not important as I rebuilt mine last year and it runs a dream.

Secondly, can anyone recommend a reasonable new rotovator that folds down as small as the DM? I don't like leaving it up the allotment all year and the DM was small and light enough to fit in my Astravan without me having to empty the whole van!

Thanks, Matt.

My Honda 400 folds up
can you not cut into the transmission with a grinder and weld up after repair
always have a target
and an objective.

Having owned a DM in the past I'd imagine that you'd get similar performace out of a Mantis tiller. They are smaller than a DM and easier to manhandle.
Blimey! You mean you can *grow* things in soil?

Thanks for your replies,

Bigbadfrankie, I had thought of that and will look into it this weekend. I was also thinking of welding/bolting a flange bearing onto the casing if I can find one the right size.

Browser, Having used a Mantis Tiller myself I found them ok for small areas but the performance is not a patch on the DM (even though the DM is clapped out). 8)

You can bronze bushes from your local bearing services and they are very cheap. They come in all sizes and with or with out a flange. If its scrap you have nothing to loose
