Hi Rich

Background is I planted the beans in trays in greenhouse.  They were in compost and grew very well.  Planted outside in raised beds 2 weeks ago, they are now very yellow but still growing up the supported structure and strings I added.

I will use some liquid fertiliser to see if that adds some green colour to the leaves.

My french beans that I planted in the same way have stayed green !!

Did you harden them off? it could be that, or they could just do with that bit of extra feed.
We have had a few cool nights to that may be a contributing factor.

Just for the record mine a yellowing a little too, but they have been hardened off and their site is well composted with well rotted stuff.

I do some times think it's because the beans grow at a quicker rate than their roots can keep up with just after transplanting.

Thank you very much for that reply

I did harden them off pre planting, but agree re the cold weather having some impact.

I will send messages as and when things improve.

I have been reading about planting corn next to courgettes on this site.  I did that planting when I heard it on Gardeners world. Neither are doing well so I will feed them also.

Here's hoping !!! Thanks again  :)

Runner Beans gone yellow. For the past 3 years with all the rainy summers i have had fantastic runner beans. I grow a BIG crop and get 40 plus bags every year.  However this year i have a poor crop.  My runner beans are growing but most of the leaves lack the deep green and are pale yellow and pale green.  This year i have grown them in the same trench,  dug the soil and thoroughly manured the bed.  The beans were started 2 months ago and were very healthy until put into the bed.  The manure was deep orange in colour underneath and this has increased the acidity of the bed. This is probably down to the urea in the manure.  Beans hate this. i have applied lime to one side in an attempt to neutralise the acidity.  Also i have applied a heavy quantity of Miracle grow so the plant gets nutirents and tons of water to dilute acidity.  The plants are now recovering but still no where near as good as last year.  I think they will pick up but i am going to plant a new set of seeds in a fresh piece of land.  It will be interesting to see if they crop heavy after a poor start.  The more water they get the more the acidity will reduce so eventually they will green up.  I will keep you posted but the best thing i have done to save is give them loads of Miracle grow as acidity stops runnerbean plants absorbing nutrients from the soil. Hope this helps
