Title: Photo Competition #11 - Sheds and Shacks - The Voting
Post by: Aunt Sally on April 15, 2009, 20:17
The Voting Is Now OPEN until Sunday 24th May 2009

Each member may cast TWO votes - It's so difficult to choose just one ;)

Sheds and shacks - That could be a posh chalet style shed, a dilapidated wreck on a plot or even a chicken coop So get snapping! you can even take interior shots if you want. Be creative!

There's a prize! Either a copy of either of my books or if you've got them both (bless you!) a copy of Virginia Shirt's The Right Way to Keep Chickens

This competition will run until 17th May - with voting for a week after.

The simple rules:

This is my 21ft static caravan that came with one of my plots. The pic was taken about 4 years ago. I've since re-roofed it so it is now only leaks slightly :). I also cleaned all the rubbish out of it. My better half still won't go in tho, although the mice still do. Its handy for having a cuppa and a sarnie and storing things of no value (due to break-ins) - rusty nails, bits of string and "that'll come in handy" stuff (ya know, empty fire extinguishers etc) that I'm not allowed to keep at home.  :(

Emily enjoys being clerk of the works whilst remaining in the shed

It's a patchwork shed that came with the plot.  It now has guttering and is more watertight!

Hard to believe perhaps, but this was once a pigsty!

I've got this ex-WW2 pigsty (that's been used as a shed for at least 40 years) on one of my plots that needs a little bit of refurbishment, hence the piles of pallets for use as cladding timber. I’ve got a stack of salvaged decking bearers to replace the fire damaged structural timbers and a load of old corrugated iron sheeting to fix the roof. I’ll might even make some bath panels out of pallet boards to make it look really smart.

Well here is my shed.  Courtesy of freecycle, my youngest brother and 2 hammers helped me dismantle it, but I had to transport it, unload it and rebuild it all by myself (although a neighbour on the plot turned up at a critical moment to hold the back wall in place while I nailed it in place)

None of it really fits perfectly together, holes and gaps on all sides including the roof (which is held in place by the rope tied to 2 palletts, the front one also holds the door in place), new felt needed, new hinges too.  I've had it a couple of months now but been too busy growing stuff or digging to lavish any attention on it, although I will, and I reckon I'll easily get a good few years out of it.  Certainly feel inspired after seeing other peoples pictures.

Oh, and looking at the picture of it, it does look like it leans too, although I did use a spirit level when putting the base down (believe it or not  )

This is our brick dunny which, I hasten to add is no longer used for the purpose it was intended  .  I'll spare you a picture of the inside with its hole in the floor  :D :D .  It does make an excellent place to keep the rotovator though.

Made mainly out of old pallets found in local skips and bonfire piles here is my old treehouse from back in the good ol'days! Sadly it has gone now, so have the trees...

It is more like a tree'shack' than a 'house' and hopefully qualifies to be entered into this competition!

(sorry for the poor quality: it had to be scanned in)

My Potting Shed. Thought i'd buy a shed to fit in the space but having looked arround decided I could do better. Came up with the design to give the largest shed for the space available and because the cars are parked next to it. It doubles up as a workshop when not full of seeds/ plants hopefully soon.

Hopfully soon will have it finished. Just put a solar extraction fan in to keep it cooler. :D
Girlfriend thinks i'm going to move as i've spent a lot of time in there :D

This is my shed, well two sheds actually.
I found that the single shed on its own was not big enough so I managed to get a second shed the same. I then fixed them both together with the doors facing each other to create an internal doorway between the two (no door though) and cut a hole in the side of one shed to create a external door. Only thing is its very dark in there, am in the process of making a window to put in around the back  :D(http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/tt114/hindy123/Misc/DSCF0177.jpg)

My Leaning Shed of Pisa!

The door does open, but only by treading on the rotten pallet board to push it out of the way, which in turn causes the shed to lean even more! It's a delicate operation, but if anyone tried to break in they'd have no chance (it's probably fall over on them first!)

John - have you been copy and pasting the comp rules again?!

In the fields behing my house, this is now an "egg farm" (the repack the eggs there)

Its really eerie at dusk when its misty which was when i first saw it.  In that atmosphere thre is no doubt as to what it was originally used for.  sadly now just falling down shacks.

The Flying Shed

Put simply I let my creative side run wild. It really did fly for two days until the balloons lost too much helium to support it. It's made of balsa wood, balloons, cotton (so i could hang onto it) and araldite. The plant inside it is mint. If you can make it out i'm actually holding this down with my trowel and thats the only reason it's not rapidly unwinding the cotton.
