Title: Ancient girl finally died
Post by: themagicaltoad1 on October 29, 2019, 13:02
I lost my ancient hen today :(, she was 10 years and 8 months. I started with 3 hens in 2009, 2 lived until they were 9 years and the last has just died. She had been very doddery for a while and in the last few days one of the other hens kept picking on her and knocking her over. I separated her from the others for a while but she wasn't happy so I let her back out, she had to be picked up a few times and in the end I brought her in. She just faded away. Poor old girl, I guess it comes to us all eventually. She's the top one in the picture.

Oh  :(  I've had a few last until 10 and I have always enjoyed the matronly stage of a hen's life.  They are funny, grumpy old creatures, but very endearing.

10 years old is pretty good going.  I know it is sad when they finally go, but she was well looked after to live such a long life  :)
