can bantams and hens live together?
« on: August 04, 2008, 17:02 »
Is it possible to mix bantams with full size chickens and can the full size ones hurt the bantams when establishing pecking order.  At moment I have a bantam who is top bird and I know she is going to be challenged by my new full size hen.  When tried to introduce them big one pecked back of bantams neck hard and was worried she would break it.

Yes, they can all live together quite happily there will still be some bullying to sort out the pecking order but that is quite normal in any flock. My friend has lots of L/F hens and one Peking bantam that firmly keeps his girls in order!

my 4 big hens live with one bantam - the cockerel frequently mates with her - although she isn't laying yet! She doesn't seem to get bullied by any of the others and is quite happy.
