Anything like this?

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=97369.0

They start off tiny and grey, then get a little bigger and redder as they feed.  They are the tiniest things ever though and a blooming nuisance.  Also if bitten too much chickens can die.

Every time I was around the hen house trying to sort, clean, check for mites I was finding tiny little grey things swarming onto my feet. I took to wearing my long winter wellies even in the heat and they were still crawling onto them from the ground around the house. That has stopped now after 2 weeks of continuous cleaning and spraying although I still think I find the odd one or two - but maybe getting paranoid now.

Probably not paranoid they are very determined. It sounds as though you are almost there with them, but do not let your guard down! :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
