« on: March 28, 2013, 18:25 »
My varieties of seed potatoes are chitting nicely with green stumps of chits they are looking midly leafy like? Is tat ok, also the earlies are developing wrinkly bottoms! Was probably going to plant earlies tomorrow in fleeced ground, any advice?

Even the small seed spuds have a lot of energy in them. If you can hold yourself back until the soil gets warmer they'll have a better chance.

Like I've said before: is there any real reason why you can't wait until July to eat your earlies, rather than June? You plant according to weather conditions, and not according to the calendar.  :)

"They" say that chitts to be about 1-3" long when planting out for best results.. But.... 2 years ago when I was using 2 garden shares I planted 4 bags of spuds end of April that I got from the special offer table in B&Q as it was late in the season and had long 8" white chitts - how was I to know they were wrong!! Result was the best spud crop I've ever had!!

I just planted them carefully holding the chits upwards..
