What is the point of them?

I have a packet of ornamental gourd seeds, which I think came with an Amateur Gardening issue. I didn't sow them as I just couldn't get the point of growing them just to look at rather than growing normal ones that you can look at and then eat.

Yes! They are grown to be ornamental, a lot are painted/decorated and used for display.
They are obviously not your cup of tea
