Im in the process or sourcing a new supply of straw for the chooks, but I wont be able to get my hands on some for a couple of days and the henhouse needs a good bottoming today. I do however have a huge amount of hay as I use it for the goats as food and bedding. Would it be okay to plonk some hay down just until I get my straw? I know its not ideal but I need to put something down and it would only be for a day or two at the most.

I cant see that it would hurt just for a couple of days - or shredded paper if you can get that. I would def use hay if i had nothing else as a stopgap.

I thought hay & straw were neither very recommended as hollow stems can harbour mould spores?

I buy either wood shavings or aubiose/hemcore -  but am currently very grateful to woodworking neighbour who makes & needs to get rid of loads of fine wood shavings.

However, anything works for a few days toll you get to buy your proper bedding.
