Title: charlotte potatoes
Post by: westcork on July 01, 2010, 17:43
has anyone else found Charlotte potatoes to be different this year ? Ours are the right shape and colour - but are floury and do not taste at all like Charlottes . They were bought this year as ' certified ' seed with the correct name on them .
thanks

we were already of the opinion that they are not Charlotte potatoes - just wondered if this had occured elsewhere . we will be contacting the supplier .

I've grown them this year as they were recommended in this forum. Ours are waxy and sweet as expected with lovely big lilac-coloured, sweet-smelling flowers. We've also had a huge drought up here but I have watered them but not massively and only earthed them up once as I was ill. They shouldn't be floury. Where did you buy them from?

Logical reason: the weather hasn't helped. My Kestrel have a strange texture and taste. Also from certified seed :(
Conspiracy theory: There was a shortage of seed potatoes last year and 'naughtiness' occurred somewhere in the supply chain, as you say they were certified

Mine are lovely too. OH was well impressed with both taste and cooking qualities. If you've got floury Charlottes you probably aint got Charlottes!!
