Looking for a bit of help please.We have 2 chickens living in our back garden adn are just over 1 yr old. One has recently become much more vocal, and has taken to splaying out her tail feathers and has a constantly puckering vent. She used to always be the first out of the eglu in the morning and constantly follwed you about. But now all she does is sit in her next, head down, tail up, vent puckering. Any ideas ?

How long has this been going on for?

Is she still laying?  Have you checked to see if she has an egg stuck? - does there feel like a hard egg shaped mass in her lower abdomen?

I'm sure someone much more experienced will come along in a while

this has beengoing n for 3-4 days now. Yes she has stopped laying. I haven't checked her for a lower abdominal lump but will do. Poos are very runny / almost water.

How is her crop?  Is she still eating?

If you can't feel an abdominal mass, can you lube your finger and VERY GENTLY feel just inside her vent?

A warm bath (body temperature) gently dried off and placed in a warm, draught-free dark room (towel in a cat basket/carrier maybe) for a couple of hours may help if she is egg bound.
