I haven't had any eggs off my hens in a few days Does anyone know why this may have happened.
The only thing i can think of is at the moment they are in the shade due to a new shelter that has gone up for my sheep however i'm currently in the middle of making a new pen for them which will have day light all year round.
Could this be the reason ?

are they going through the moult,its a stressful time for them so that might be the problem,or feeding,are you feeding them layers pellets or mash,dont give them to much corn,and what breed are they.some lay a lot of eggs and some not so many.I am sure someone with more knowledge of laying hens will give you the advice you need.

They get fed on 1 corn to 2 laying pellets (about) and they have quite a bit of food poultry grit quater of a loaf of bread and half a lettuce a day
I have 2 Rhode Islands, 1 Island Rock, 3 Amber star,6 Leg horns, 1 speckled (sorry can't remember name of the breed)
I don't think it's Red mite as i checked them for it not so long ago and got the powder but i will check that again.
And also i only have 2 hens laying at the moment my Rhode Islands, because my Leg Horns Amber stars and speckled are only quite young and are about 22weeks old at the end of august. However my Island rock hasn't started laying yet  I doubt they could become broody so young (Rhode islands are about 28 weeks old) but maybe they could. ??

I've been cursing my hens the last few days as egg production dropped.  Today there were no eggs .....  until I found the secret 'nest' they had built from old leavers behind the compost bin!  Big pile of eggs .... with no idea when they were laid!  Check their enclosure carefully - you may be surprised.

the way to check for red mite is to look inside the coup at night (take a torch and a piece of white paper). Rub the white paper along any cracks, joints inside the coup and if it shows any red smears on it then you have red mite. You wikll need to start treating the coups if you do find any evidence as they can make the chickens very weak. During the day they hide under felt roofs, in any gaps in the wood and in the shavings - they will look greyish in the day as they only turn red when they are full of blood.
