Protecting my seedlings.
« on: June 06, 2007, 00:18 »
I only got my plot the other month & have spent most of my time clearing it! Since I missed the chance to grow seedling under cover I have been sowing broccali, beetroot & runnerbeans direct from seed. Should I cover the area with fleece or netting to protect the seedlings from birds etc?  :?

My experience only.......

Broccoli - yes, yes & yes.

Beetroot - don't bother

Runner beans - birds don't bother, but need slug protection.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I would protect beetroot as mine have been badly attacked by the birds and seedlings pulled out

Never had a problem and we are plagued with pigeons.

It's sparrows that keep eating my lettuce and beetroot

Pigeons not a problem
