Cheap alternatives to Weck jars
« on: September 19, 2010, 21:53 »
I must say that I like the elegant shapes and neat closures of Weck preserving/canning jars.

I'm less impressed about their price.

Are there any similar alternatives, or cheap suppliers of the genuine article?

Regards,

SS

Dunno exactly what you are looking for but a clip type jar that is a much cheaper alternative to the Kilner ones is this range

I use a few for the presentation where I want a few of my jam offerings to look a bit special.  Have been known to tie the clips down with arty-pharty curly parcel ribbon stuff too.

The only drawback I have found is that being a bit quick in sealing them when filling with red hot jam as the contents cool and the airspace pressure drops the lid is very firmly fixed indeed!  Magdeburg hemispheres or what.  Sometimes have to resort to a thin knife edge comressing the seal to let in a bit of equalising air!
