My dad called and said do you wnat some wood for the chimenea, always on the lookout for a freebie I said

"Great have you cleared out the scrap bits from your shed at last. "

It went quiet and then he said well you can pop in on your way to school and see what I have got

I drove over expecting some old tatty bits of wood usually with nails and hinges still on LOL

and I saw at least 3 tonnes of wood

The council had cut down two old trees, making way for more parking spaces and Dad had asked if he could have some

well some turned into ALL

and now I need to bring it here and chop it all. I have my eyes on some large stuff (possible stools for the children in the garden) what else can I do with this lovely wood, seems a shame to burn it  :?

He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Mushrooms........loads of lovely mushrooms.  I would love to have enough wood to grow them on but my OH insists on having a "tidy" garden and wont let me have a pile rotting in the corner.  :)

I'm always looking out for fallen logs. I'd love to drive round with my trailer attached just in case but OH won't let me  :(

If I drive past a fallen branch, I want to reverse and strap it to the roof bars but not terribly safe on a main road

if you can get some over to Boston, I'll have the lot. Should cut the gas bill no end.  :D

Not felled.

Hello.  Not sure about how long is too long on freshly felled logs but last year I grew some lobster mushrooms dowels on logs that had been cut 10 weeks previously.  They were delicious!  :)  I just chose nice logs that did not look too slimy and were still quite dry.  drilled a hole, popped the dowel in and then ........voila, 5 months later lovely mushrooms.  Well worth it.  plus they keep on cropping for up to 18 months after you begin harvesting.
