I don't think there is much choice in the wood offered as decking.  But any hardwood is preferable to soft.

I've just knocked up a couple of bottomless bins so the gro-bags for the spuds look a little 'nicer' from scrounged 2nd hand decking.

Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

I wouldnt use wooden decking after slipping on it and seeing others come a cropper when its wet. I now only recommend composite decking such as UPM ProfiDeck. it comes at a price but doesnt rot and you dont slip on it. Good stuff it is.

Another word of warning! I have decking outside my shed, and like Steveharford, I regularly slip on it when it is wet. I think I might get Plotfather to replace it with paving slabs.

cheaper option is to staple wire netting to it .

The Gardens at Heligan use 1" mesh on a lot if not all of their decking paths

Paint the decking boards with shed/fence stain and sprinkle fine dry sand onto while wet and paint it in. Leave it a day and repeat both paint and sand.  I do it ever spring and dont have a slipping problem.

I took my decking out last year after I fell on it but discovered that the problem was that it had been incorrectly installed, which resulted in the water lodging on the boards and turning slimey.  You need to lay them on a slight gradiant so the water runs off.  I think the hard wood type with the ridges is probably the best.

A friend of mine bought a length of artificial grass and laid it on top of her decking - no more slipping and it looks really well.
