ANYONE ANY EXPERIENCE OF THE "SWOE"?
« on: July 21, 2010, 22:12 »
We have just managed to acquire a nice collection of tools via good old Freeserve; yeeehaaa! Among these was a strange looking hoe, which looks like a very long putter, but we have since identified as being a Swoe. Anyone got/used one of these? If so, what's your opinion of it? A quick prod at some weeds in the garden suggests it might be a useful tool........
Once a moley, always a moley.........

I bought one years ago. I reckon it's the best hoe I've ever used. :)
Not a lot of use for earthing up potato's, but wicked at chopping off weeds at the root ;)

Swoe's are brilliant - light and easy to use and you can get round the back of plants to weed.

They are also good for a swift level of the ground before new seedlings go in, and for slicing off annual weeds in difficult places.

One of the best garden tools to have. Well done you!

I have a swoe, it is very good for general chopping off of weeds.  It's not a draw hoe so you can't earth up with it, it is basically a dutch hoe with only one side connected and a 3 sided blade which makes it really useful.  I use mine nearly every time I go down the allotment.

It's my tool of choice when it comes to weeding!
Light strong and can slice with the blade edge if you need to get into confined areas.
You've dropped on there!

Without a doubt one of the most useful almost everyday tools on the plot. The long reach handle allows for accurate (once you get the hang of it) weeding across several rows. The blade can be used as a "push & pull" to slice through weeds and, by turning the handle a little, more delicate weed removal can be achieved right up close to plants.

Hang on to that one!

I have two - one on the plot and one at my parents place to help keep their flower beds weed-free.

I use a swoe  :D

On the up side its excellent to use on a well tended plot. If you tend to leave your weeding and come and blitz your plot once a fortnight you might be better with something more hefty.

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Has been known on a good day.. but I’m never too sure how to take it when someone says: “You’re funny!”  ::)

Back on topic:- Go for a stainless steel swoe - they are light and lovely to use  ;)
