My delinquent chickens!
« on: August 20, 2011, 19:34 »
These are my two delinquents:

No matter what I do they just wont stay in the chicken pen, and if I leave the terrace door open they happily pop in and out, chasing my cats away from thier food!

I don't know what she is Joy, a mystery chick!

She came from a batch of eggs I bought off ebay, but she isn't any of the breeds listed (and certainly not the green egg layer she was meant to be!)  But she has the most pretty willow coloured leggs, which are rare in white birds!

My girls will sneak in at any opportunity to steal the cat's canned cat food.  They tap on the door with their beaks and demand to be let in.  I've seen stealth, trickery and even desperation to get at that cat food.   :D
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

My last 2 girls, Miss Red and Miss Grey loved coming into the kitchen to have a nose around. No matter how many times I tried to shoo them out, the'd creep back in when my back was turned. Then, if the porch door was open, they would come into the lounge to see what was going on, especially if the telly was on, they loved a bit of telly!

Oh those naughty chickens!  But they are so pretty, you couldn't stay mad at them for long.   :)

After my little nephews have been to visit I often think I should let the chickens in the house to clean up all the crumbs, squashed raisins, bananas that have been held in tight little fists... I'm sure your hens are only doing you a favour by cleaning up after your messy cats, Casey.

Apparently chickens do like dog food - some people feed it to them as a protein boost!  So no I don't think it would harm them.

On the other hand it aslo wouldn't have the right balance of nutrients for a hen so you wouldn't want to give it to them as part of their regular diet.
