I think you have to pay a monthly fee, I know that's what I've been offered on Microsoft.

I use AdBlock and AdBlock Plus.
They are both free and do the job.

I must add that the only reason you are able to use these forums for chat and information is that they are paid for by…  adds !

There are far too many ads thrown in your face all day every day these days. It is bad enough ad breaks getting longer and longer on the TV and radio, now we have to be bombarded whenever we go online. I'd like to see restrictions on the length of ad breaks to two minutes max, a minimum of half an hour between ad breaks, and any advert that doesn't get to the point within ten seconds should be deleted.

Feel free to delete my post if you like.
I thought, with no knowledge whatsoever, that ads were taken out on a site because of the amount of traffic that site generated.
A site with only 7 members isn't likely to get any advertisers.
A site with a million members will have no problem getting advertisers.
Is an advertiser able to tell where a "click" comes from, i.e. which site?

Yes they are, every ad has a unique ID for any given site.

Thanks, every day's a school day.  :)
I will continue to be ad free though, sorry. We also hardly ever watch TV in real time, we record anything we want to watch so we can skip past the ads.

Ads are an almost-acceptable nuisance when reading the online rags, but I wish there was a 'blocker' so I didn't have to see stuff about two ex-'royals', living in squalor in a $12m mansion somewhere in California...

When you find it please let me know. Also, I could use one that I can programme to turn off certain very annoying ads such as the one with lots of prolonged OOOOhs and the car site ad with Philip Schofield.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

As well as recording programmes rather than watching live I suggest having your MUTE control to hand so if ads do come on you can at least avoid the soundtrack.
Keep digging

We loved the entire series of 'Foyle's War', but as there were so many ad breaks, the programmes sometimes lasted several days, and became very irritating, but, the best way to watch them now is on DVD, and thankfully, all the dross has been chopped out, and I can see Honeysuckle Weeks without any interruption at all, for two, whole, blissfull hours..:0~

Luckily, Mrs Growster also likes Michael Kitchen as well...

How about a dedicated channel to adverts and charity pleas ONLY!   Then if you wanted to know about matresses, life insurance, junk food or where to spend an inheritance windfall you know where to go.

Television sets with TWO volume controls so you could set how intrusive the 'musical' soundtracks are.

Cheers,  Tony.
