horseradish
« on: January 08, 2010, 10:07 »
i'm thinking of planting some horseradish, seems its not a good idea to plant them in beds so how would they do in pots. when is the best time to plant them and any good suppliers to get them from. i think 1 or 2 would do.

cheers
david

You would need big deep pots but don't see why it would not work. Horseradish is invasive and fast spreading so 1 root may do you. You can buy mail order from the seed companies, or garden centres have roots in any time now or you can beg a root on your local lottie site. Someone will have a clump going.

We have ours in a 2Mt square bed away from anything, we sank the bed made of wood about 25Cm into the ground.

Planted 5 pieces 4 years ago and it has never spread outside the bed.

We just chop a bit with the spade as we want it, it looks after its self.

I think you could plant it anytime, it will grow.

I've got some on my plot I've being trying to kill for about 3 years now. It arrived and I thought oooh good till it got going and I realised what a thug it was. Several bottles of weedkiller later not so thrilled

I can understand what a lot of you are saying, but the problems start if you do not control it.

I am still a fan, and have no problems.

As i said we do keep it away from anything, but it has never grown outside the bed.
