Title: 30L Buckets
Post by: RookieJim on October 30, 2012, 10:11
Morning all,

Does anyone know where I can get some cheap 30 litre buckets from?

My plot neighbour grows his potatoes in them with great success and I want to give it a try next year.

Cheer,

Jim

Trugs from a builders merchant (rather than a garden centre) are possibly a reasonably cheap way to achieve this. They are certainly made in this size.

Yup, they're the things I meant. That's a good price for 3. :)

Wow, thanks Auntie - that's an excellent find! I shall be ordering some when I get home.

Thanks.

My Daughter(6) says I am not allowed to buy any other colour.

That's so you can't pinch 'em Lawrence!  :)
I have lime green, orange and pink (3 of each).  Have veg in some, sieved compost in others, my 'indoor seedling kit' (seedling compost, seeds, trays etc) in the spare room for when it's too cold to go outside, may even put my patio trees in them next year!  ::) :D

LOL! I think you are right.
There are more of them with toys in than plants! (And I have 18 of them)

I do have two trees growing in them ready for a new location, but they are great for mint as well.
I wonder if they would be good for Bamboo?

I think it would look really pretty.  :)  You could drill the holes a bit further up to keep a water reservoir.
I never thought about using one for mint or indeed herbs.  Have some spare thyme and parsley around somewhere so thanks for that.  May even use one for all my spare strawberry plants!
I find that putting a few bricks or empty drinks bottles in the bottom helps with drainage and you don't have to use so much compost if you're growing more shallow rooted plants.
