Onion Sets
« on: June 29, 2012, 11:33 »
Hi all, I have onion sets left over from March time, they have been in the shed and are not sprouting.  Will they be any good for anything or should I just bin them??  thanks

If you have some spare ground & some spare time you could plant them & use them as immature onions rather than wasting them. But if like most others you have more 'valuable' crops I too wouldn't bother.

don't know what sort of result you'll get at this time of year, but if you dont want to bin them but don't also want to give up valuable plot space - if you've got something like a builders bucket and some spare compost, plant the sets so they are almost touching.  For a bit of compost, it's maybe worth an experiment  :D. I've got a spring sown bucket producing nice salad onions - if you've plenty spares next spring   :)
