Are the Potato Gro-Kits any good?
« on: October 15, 2008, 06:57 »
I'm thinking about ordering three, but thought I'd ask here if anyone had used them before. They are H 18 inch x W12 inch and are made from interwoven polypropylene with two carry handles.  They dont sound big to me, but as I've never grown potatoes before (what would I know!) I also receive 5 tubers per sack, how much crop would I get from 5 tubers.
Sorry for so many questions but I really haven't a clue, next year will be my first year trying to grow veggies. Thanks Karen. :D

We used 3 of those bags and they were good.  The advantages being that as we only grow in a small garden, we could move them if necessary, and now they are empty, they've been dried an brushed clean and folded away for next year, with no bulky large tubs.  I cannot think of any disadvantages.  Good luck.  Mrs Bouquet

Where are you thinking of buying them from? (online or a shop)

I keep seeing some at various web sites and am still unsure about buying some.

Well just my opinion, but if I have a few potato tubers left over with no room in the ground, I use the old compost bags, just stick some manure and soil in them, put in a tuber or 2, then earth up as the potatoes grow.

I don't like people making money out of selling us a posh plastic bag!!! lol

Dammit!! I threw a compost bag away yesterday and it was Bin day :(

Although I have a smaller bag almost empty in the shed!  I could use that... oh wait... no tubers :(

are 5 gallon drums (top cut off, holes in bottom) any good for spuds? How many would you plant in one?

I use the garden spring up tidy bags, I have seen those potato tubs look very much like in my hands they would fall apart.

Are they the blue ones Des?  I think you may get 4-5 tubers in one of them, but they are good for carrots too with lots of nice sandy soil in, or parsnips!!!

Hi GrannieAnnie

These are they

Next to watering can so you can see the size - a few holes drilled in bottom.

Do you think they are big enough to plant 4 seed potatoes in?
