Hello all again,

Yesterday my plot neighbour was explaining to me (in broken English, she is from Eastern Europe) that she gets her next batch of seeds from this years crop.

Apart from saving money on buying packets of seeds, how can so much effort be worthwhile ?

Tony

Depends which seeds and how much they cost initially.

Some seeds like runner beans are a doddle to keep, others like onions, carrots etc. need two years.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I also get a fair amount of next year's seed from previous year's crops; I'm going to have thousands of beetroot seeds but I'll be keeping some and swapping the rest for other crops that I want. Tomatoes, beans, peas, peppers are all pretty easy and you can get seed in a year, others need 2 years; and you need a fair amount of space as you don't harvest from the first to go to seed, but the BEST to go to seed. I'm also growing a fair amount of onions and selecting the best for seed; these are onions that have been given to me/swapped as they are not varieties easily found in the UK seed shops.....so to get the best you have to grow alot!
