Can someone please help two of my girls have started to eat the wood shavings from the bottom of the coop, they only seem to do when i clean them out on a sunday, they have greens and grass and layers pellets and have some corn before bed. is it something that they all do?

Could be something they are missing in their diet, no idea what though
I used to have a hen that liked pecking bricks, I tried to put grit in their diet, but it was never taken, if it was it was a small amount

I've seen my chickens do this on occasion - well, mostly they drop it again. They were young chickens though so might have been learning.
I'm using straw in my coop at the moment. I started using it instead of hemp shavings as I didn't like them trying to eat it. Maybe you could try straw instead?

They could be bug hunting. Check the coopfor red mite, a sugeestion given was run a piece of white paper in the cracks, and check the chooks for lice.
