Boycot of bird-feeders
« on: January 11, 2023, 15:51 »
For as long as I can remember, topping up the bird-feeders in the garden has been a weekly task. I live outside of town, have a very large garden, a small area of woodland and a 3 acre field so there have been plenty of feathered customers; that is until the last 6 months. Now the feeders (mainly fat-balls) are almost untouched. Anyone else have a similar dearth of feathered visitors? Can it be avian flu?

Yes. the flu and the draught didn't help small birds, either  :(

We've noticed the same.. they do come back now and again but very sporadic compared to this time last year!

We altered a peanut feeder to take fat balls, and they just sat there, left untouched and have now gone black!

Mind you, the resident crows in the church tower can clear our bird table of old bread etc., in a matter of minutes!

I have a feeder but never get many takers no matter what I put out apart from the collared doves(pigeons?) . It’s always been the same since we moved here 17 years ago.
A woman's place is in her garden.

We're the same here with the usual bird seed mix, but the starlings and occasional robin are loving the dried mealworms.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
