Part of today's harvest.

Must dash - sugar turning to starch & all that. Freezer beckons...

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Mmmmmmmm nice  :tongue2:

We went to a Harvester last night and I had a side order of corn on the cob. It tasted of nothing. It was truly awful. Yours looks great and 100 times tastier.

I was a bit late getting mine in this year with one thing & another, & was a bit concerned that the cobs may not swell. Fingers crossed that the remaining 50 or so will make it.

Just had to force myself to eat two cobs that didn't pass my demanding quality control staff (me).

That's funny Digger, because the first time I tried sweetcorn 3 years ago, I got the packet cheap at 33p because they were late, and they wree the best ones I've ever had, even though I just made little holes and chucked the seed in!!!!

Just checked out Moles seeds - £2.60 for 50g, that's between 200 & 400 seed for a F1.

Know where I'm going next year & can go halves with a fellow plottie. That's £1.30 wheras I paid about £9 this year.

I got into trouble with Mrs. Digger. I used the pressure cooker to blanch them, as it was the only thing big enough to accommodate the cobs. It didn't do it last time for some reason, anyway the inside ended up looking like this........

No panic - remembered the old trick with boiling up rhubarb in it. Now looks like this.....

Must fill it to the top next time!

I plan to grow sweetcorn next year and will use the tip I saw on here about pop bottles on the cobs. ALL the allotment holders who grow them at my site have had theirs eaten by magpies.
Lynne.

So much to do, but so little time.
