I grew some last year without anything over them. Often the packet suggest a propagator but many on the site will say a plastic bag does the same job and is cheaper. B & Q were selling them cheap recently so I bought a couple of them but they dont seem to make much difference to my chilli plants - those with nothing over them came up anyway.

They need warmth more than light for a start, put them on the windowsill once they have broken the surface of the soil.
Put a bit of kitchen foil behind them to bounce the light back on to them, it helps stop them go leggy.
Take them out of the window if it's a cold night.

A cling-film cover or clear plastic bag cover is mostly to stop them drying out too fast.

It helps keep the moisture in.

Keep them warm (in the light or the dark..seeds do not need light to germinate).

As soon as they are up (keep checking) move them somewhere light and keep them warm too.

Good luck!!  ;)

Most of those do not like being inside where it's too warm.

In my opinion you're rather with the sweetcorn, what are you going to do with it for the next couple of months before you can even start to think about putting it outside?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

put it in the greenhouse to keep the frost off it

or even put it under small poly tunnles but not sure yet dont know if there is anything else going under them just yet

As sunny as possible (or you will get weak, leggy plants.)  8)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Do you realise how tall it can  grow in two months and what size pots it will need to stop it going pot bound?
