We use Basil, Corriander, Sage, Rosemarry and Thyme mostly.

I will give the kitchen windowsill a go with the Basil then i think, maybe we can have it all year round with the eventual frozen tomatoe sauce that i make from the summer overspill.

I will sow some on Sunday.

Thanks

I love basil so I start lots off in pots at the start of May.

But I also buy plants from Asda etc and plant them up at the same time and these do really well and grow into strong plants.

I've done the same at the start of July in buying plants and keep them in a sunny warm place.
Top tip for camping....don't go.

Pot on the kitchen windowsill nearly all year round for me ;)
The kitchen is too cold in the deepest depths of winter, but by then there's plenty in the freezer.

Freeze unchopped and just quickly crumble it from frozen direct into your pasta sauce, works a treat!

I've never successfully frozen basil, so I'll have to give this a go. Thank you  :)

Anyone else had some of the free herb seeds from the packets of Lurpax.  I've had 2lots of basil and 2lots of thyme.  Didn't hold out much hope for them but they seem to germinate really easily and are growing away well.
Wonder what will be on this weeks packet

Here is a pic of my basil growing, but I think I may move to indoors.

I am very new to this.

I love the large leaved basil from Franchi Seeds.

I start 2 decent sized pots in spring and then alternate them - 1 for picking and 1 'in recovery'. That way they keep going until their replacements are ready next spring.

I have never had any luck growing basil outdoors, though.

I would love to try growing the type of bush basil they have on Kos, but I've never been able to find it. The locals called it 'Australian basil' and it smells heavenly.

Could this be the one? At least it's Greek.

That's the one I was going to suggest

I've grown the traditional Italian one, the traditional Greek bush one and Queen of Siam in a pot
on the paving..just because it looks good

Anyone tried growing Thai Holy basil? I've found it quite easy to grow in the kitchen and it's awfully expensive to buy (if you can get it!!)
I grow it every year good for my thai green curries.

Thank you. I have seen that one and was thinking of trying it next year, but the one I've been trying to find is quite big with largish leaves. I've never heard 'Australian basil' mentioned anywhere but Kos!

Greeks love their Cinnamon, so wonder if it is Cinnamon Basil like like this which can grow up to 3ft high if it's warm enough

thai basil - great stuff. I sow it in the greenhouse then pot on and put in a sunny windowsill.

Similarly with the typical basil - and some of the potted-on plants stay in teh greenhouse, others go on a window sill. But I sow basil every month to have a plentiful supply. Never had much luck with it outdoors as it gets nibbled by ants and things
