Hi all,

Our allotment association is looking at providing a seed ordering service for our members, and we're looking at the deals / discounts we may be able to get from various seed companies in order to pass on to our members.

If anyone has recent experience of this with their association, I'd be really interested in knowing (by PM is fine if you prefer not to post details online):

1. which company
2. what discount off the published list price do you get
3. is there a minimum value of the order before the discount is applied?

Thanks a lot.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi yorkie1

I use www.terwinseeds.co.uk for all mine. They can supply small amounts, as well as large. The bigger the order the cheaper they are. Not sure if they are divided up into smaller quantities for a share out but its worth a look. Also if you dont like to order things on line, you can request a catalogue, and order by post.

Hi Yorkie, A few years ago our site committee arranged with Kings seed merchants to buy at discounted rates, but we had a minimum order and we had to order all the seeds at once and they were delivered all together so had to be sorted for each person. :(  ( Quite a lot of work for the committee members). I would ask as many questions as you can of your short list before you select a seed company. Good luck.

not sure if theres a minimum order or not but our site used dobies this year, half price on seeds, 10% off everything not a seed (spuds, onions etc).  its delivered direct to the individual and not back to the person who put in the whole order so easier on the person organising the thing though all the orders go off together.  haven't received anything yet, but the deadline for orders isn't til friday so can't comment on the efficiency or not of the system.

We used Kings as well. I think its first time so we will see how it goes but its like grumpy old men on our plot. The Chairman organised Kings and then someone else(who always pleases himself)  organised another so we ended up ordering from both so we didnt upset anybody   They are all nice really but they just enjoy bickering with each other  :D

Jo, I tell you, your chaps have *nothing* on ours in the grumpy old men stakes!  Change?  Change   ?? "What does tha' need to change 'owt for?  It ain't broke ..."

Thanks for the suggestion of Kings, I think we've looked at them.

Crowndale, I think we need to follow up with Dobies as that seems a really good deal.  Thanks.

Our associayion offer 50% off the T&M list and then add 10% on for funds.
Seeds come individally wrapped with name and plot number on it.

Maybe the Kings order form will be too complicated for our bears of little brain in hut - introducing change is one thing, but complicated change?

I'll email the Treasurer now with everyone's suggestions - many thanks to all who took the time and trouble to respond.

We use Kings. There are two ways of doing it.

Either fill out the form for what everyone's ordered and spend an evening sorting out the order.

Or add £1 to each order for Kings to do the sorting, where you only fill out the big form which is straightforward.
