i have a problem with my hedge at home every time i go near it there is a cloud off small whitefly coming off the leaves.closer inspection underside of leaf there is hundreds of these pesky little blighters any ideas of what they are?,and treatment for the problem

Blast em with the hose pipe?  Bound to drown some of the critters!

Ill put money on them being Beech Aphids.

Tar Oil winter wash in december or if you cant wait, a systemic insecticide now. If you dont treat them the little * will overwinter and be back next year.

  thanks for your advice. will have to act quickly to sort problem out.wife said she is not going  topless in the garden till the bugs are busted.

Look at this for a Beech hedge then:



120 foot high. 600 feet long and 200 years old. Imagine spraying that for aphids, you'd need a light aircraft.!!
